(Not) A Typical Monday.

While I woke up and dreaded my typical Monday routine, my best friend and his wife went to the hospital this morning and delivered their second child (ten fingers and ten toes, yay!)

It's interesting the way life works: while you and me had an ordinary, indifferent. typical average Monday, it completely changed forever the lives of David and Stephanie. June 30, 2008 to most of the world = nothing. June 30, 2008 to Dave and Steph = an addition to the family that changes everything.

(Congratulations, Dave and Steph!)

Finally. A Movie Worth Talking And Blogging About.

"Wanted" starring Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman was deliciously wonderful! So delicious in fact that it's probably my favorite movie this summer.

I too was like you: I never heard a lot about it beforehand. But since Paul wanted to go, I decided to come along. which resulted in me giggling and cheering in sheer delight.

It was Matrix-like visually, stunning and beautiful to watch leaving you breathless and jaw-dropped, and the twists in the plot kept the audience on pins and needles as they tried to guess the end. The writing and sense of humor was sharp, witty, and quick as a whip. Action scenes unforgettable.

Go see it. Definitely "two Ernie thumbs up!"

BLECCH.

I had a long day and I don't feel like talking MRI results, only that they were fine.

I don't know.

I'm just grumpy. While Paul and my parents are pleased with the results, I view them diferently: hey, I go through so much pain and suffering during chemo that results should be positive. Chemo sucks, so there better be a reward afterwards.

I know it's not the right attitude. And I know I'm bot being grateful. I'm just over today.

BLAH BLAH

Only a handful of people knew ahead of time that I had MRI's done yesterday and this afternoon on my brain and spine to see whether the chemo was working, whether the brain tumor(s) are growing, shrinking, or remaining the same...blahdy blah blah blah...same old routine...same old depressing thoughts...blahrdy blah blah I find out the results Thursday when I meet with the doctor blah blah pity party I AM SO OVER IT ALL.

"Smart"y Pants

Because of the good reviews, I went in watching "Get Smart" with high expectations. While I was somewhat amused during a few scenes, I left feeling unfulfilled overall. It lacked the quirky sense of humor I thought would come from Steve Carrell and "The Office," and it wasn't as action-packed as it had appeared in the trailer.

Sidenote: it was nice to see Anne Hathaway in something after "The Devil Wears Prada."

Longest (And Saddest?) Day Of The Year.

Saturday was the first day of summer, marking the longest day of the year. From here on out, the days get shorter and there's less daylight until the first day of winter (December 21st).

We celebrated (and mourned?) by eating (and stuffing our sorrows?) at a restaurant that allowed pets and then went to the dog park.

Later on at night, I got schooled on my negative and "half-empty" attitude, causing me think differently: it's like I'm on top of a mountain, and I'm complaining about the ever so slow, decending slope in front of me.

You Doity Bird!

Let's talk dirty: have you ever seen "Dirty Jobs" on the Discovery Channel?

Mike Rowe, the host of the show, searches all over America to spend the day in some of the most disgusting careers that really exist- from a repairman working all day in the country's largest septic tank, to a factory worker where they turn Las Vegas food waste into cheese.

I've never gone out of my way to watch an episode. In fact, I've only caught bits of it when ny dad tunes it in (he finds the show extremely interesting.) But I'm strangely attracted to Mike. Although he's got a big nose, a wrinkly forehead, and a glutton for pretty gross stuff, he exudes complete and utter total masculinity and his sense of humor is quite clever indeed.

The pictures show both sides of him: dirty on the duty, and nicely (and handsomely) cleaned up.

OH MY GOSH!

The scariest thing just happened to me!

While watching TV, I heard a noise on our backyard deck. It got louder and louder, making it obvious that something was happening out back. I slowly tiptoed to the back door. As I suspected, our recycling bin was being ransacked. I observed silently the dog's furry back as it went through our empty bottles and food containers, until it realized that it was being watched. It slowly lifted it's entire upper body to look at me- it was the biggest, fattest, monster-sized RACCOON I had ever seen!

We stared at each other for about eight seconds until it slowly started to walk away.

Viva Las "Vegas"

Cameron and Ashton antics in Sin City was fun to watch and not as predictable as you'd think. I genuinely laughed out loud several times, giving the movie a "B" in my book.

How does it rank on the list of romantic comedy movies? Less romance, more comedy. Definitely a "renter," not a "buyer."

Happy Father's Day!

I guess having Taylor is as close as I'll get to being a dad. While I've only had her for 15 days, I've already learned a lot about myself. The most valuable lesson I've learned so far is through our walks in the middle of the day: slow down, enjoy life, and take notice of what's happening around you.

Before her, I never, ever did any walking unless I had a destination or a goal to achieve.

Happy Father's Day, especially to those of us without a dad or a father figure present in our life.

See- Told'ja So!

Check out my journal entry from May 18th, just three weeks ago. Pop.

The summer heat moves in and so do the movies...

"Kung Fu" Fabulous: Jack Black, the voice behind big-bellied Po the Panda, gave the bear a loveable personality that kept me amused for an hour and a half.

And how well do you know your retro music? Do you think you're that good?

Question: Who sang the 1974 hit, "Kung Fu Fighting?"

Answer: Carl Douglas

*Fashion designer Marc Jacobs

*The Jimmy Choo empire

Set your tivo and enjoy the show!
Note: the Barbies pictured are filipino dressed in traditional filipino garb. Fierce tranny hot mess.

"Indy" And The "City"

Why read reviews from E-bert when you can read them from Ernie?

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull: good if you set your expectations low. Don't expect it to blow your socks off, like one of the Bourne movies or a Matrix movie. Follows the path of the past three Indy movies. Worth watching again? Yes!

Sex and the City: Wonderful writing and gorgeous fashion that swooned me over. Very good movie. Was worth the wait. Worth watching again? Yes!
